Things to Do in Safune

Safune has working coconut plantations where families have lived the same way for centuries. This small village on Savai'i's northwest coast doesn't appear on tourist maps, which keeps it authentic and uncrowded. Family-run places serve real Samoan food here. Expect palusami, fresh fish, and tropical fruits for 15-25 tala per meal—no fancy restaurants, but the food is fresh and reasonably priced. Many accommodations arrange meals with local families for home-cooked dishes and genuine conversation.

May to October brings less humidity and fewer mosquitoes. The wet season from November to April means lush landscapes and fewer tourists, though cyclones are possible but relatively rare. March and April work well despite being wet season—rains tend to be brief afternoon showers.
